But first… Looking Back on 2023

The Deer Shed Festival

We continued our long standing relationship with the Deer Shed Festival in 2023, proving a full package of sound, lighting and crew across all six stages of music, comedy, theatre and more. HPSS also provided production management services in the build up to and during the three day festival.

Headliners The Comet is Coming, Public Service Broadcasting and The Delgados took to the main stage with an L-Acoustics K2 and KS28 system with A15 front fills. Lighting on the main stage consisted of Robe LEDBeam 150s, Robe Paintes and Ledj Spectra QX40s with a Robe Pointe floor package.

We were delighted to hear that Deer Shed won festival of the year 2023 at The LIVE Awards, and we’re looking forward to helping them build on this success in 2024.

Live at the Piece Hall

In August 2023 the BBC asked Piece Hall: Is this hidden architectural gem UK's best gig venue? We think it’s hard to say no.

Following on from a very successful year of shows at The Piece Hall in 2022, HPSS again provided a full sound and lighting solution for 2023. This year saw a broad range of artists take to the stage including George Ezra, Sting, Hozier, Madness and Limp Bizkit.

As the Piece Hall is a town centre venue, we were challenged again to provide a sound system capable of delivering premium audio throughout the entire audience area without too much over-spill.

We used a combination of L-Acoustics K2 main hangs and Kara II side arrays with A15s as front-fills. L-Acoustics did their own write up on our work for this year’s run, which you can read here.

The lighting rig included our Robe Spiiders and MegaPointes, Ayrton Perseo Profile-Ss and SGM Q8s, as well as LEDJ Spectra QX40s for architectural lighting of the Piece Hall itself.

StoneDead

We supplied an L-Acoustics K2 system for the one day, one stage festival at Newark Showground, with Blue Öyster Cult, Therapy?, the Answer, King King and many more performing thought the day.

We also supplied a lighting package consisting of Robe Paintes, LEDBeam 150s and LEDJ Spectra QX40s.

We’re already looking forward to doing it all again this year.

Chilfest

We continued our long standing relationship with Chilfest in 2023, providing a sound system consisting of L-Acoustics K2 and SB28s, with our KARA II serving as lip fills.

The festival has gone from strength to strength over the many years that we’ve been involved, and in 2023 the Saturday night headliners were Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, Tom Bailey and The South.

Brid Spa

We provided a range of equipment to Bridlington Spa throughout 2023, including Kara II systems for touring artists including Nile Rodgers, Bad Boy Chiller Crew, and Bastille.

Humber Street Sesh

We helped Humber Street Sesh celebrate their 10th birthday in 2023 with over 100 acts across 6 stages. We provided a multi-stage sound and lighting solution, including a L-Acoustics Kara II system on the Main Stage and an A15 system on the Alt-Main Stage.

Humber Street Sesh is Hull’s largest music festival and provides a unique platform for local bands and artists; we were, as always, proud to be involved.

Freedom Festival

Our relationship with the Freedom Festival continued into 2023, with a typically wide range of artists taking over Hull city centre for a weekend in early September.

We provided a range of sound, stage and lighting equipment for events across the festival, including in Zebedee’s yard and Stage @ the Dock.

Hull International Choir Competition

The International Choir Competition came to Hull in 2023, the first time this prestigious event has been held in the UK. The competition brought together over 1,000 participants from 27 choirs across 10 countries, and took place in a range of venues throughout Hull city centre.

We provided sound systems for each of the seven venues involved in the competition and the public Friendship Concerts. The competing choirs performed music covering a wide range of genres, from Pop and Jazz to Sacred Music.

The Illegal Eagles

The Illegal Eagles are back on tour again with a full sound and lighting package provided by HPSS. They will be visiting over 120 venues this year, touring an L-Acoustics Kara II and SB18 system with MTD108A front fills, all powered by a custom 6 way LA4X rack. Control at both FOH and monitors comes from our Allen & Heath dLive C2500 Surfaces.

There’s also a new lighting rig for 2024, including 15 Robe 150 LEDBeams and 14 Prolights Astra Hybrid 330 controlled from a Avolights Tiger Touch 2.

This has allowed an exciting update to the existing design, with more vintage lights to build on the show’s authentic feel. The floor package has also been increased and improved to add a broader visual dimension to the design.

The Bootleg Beatles

The Bootleg Beatles’ tour of Denmark, Belgium and the Netherlands is underway, with a HPSS control package consisting of our DiGiCo Quantum 225s for FOH and monitor control and a mixture of wireless IEMs for the band and wired IEMs for the orchestra.

The Bootleg Beatles will continue to tour throughout the year, including in the UK with a full L-Acoustics Kara II system provided by HPSS.

Hull University Graduations

Our Christie Roadster HD20K J Series Projector and 8m x 4.5m Projection Screen went into Connexin Live for Hull University’s graduation ceremonies.

Congratulations to all of this years’ graduates.

Back to Ours/Tangled Feet

We were delighted to help out Back to Ours this month with a small theatre lighting package that went into North Point Shopping Centre, consisting of LEDJ Slimline Par 7Q5s, Elumen8 MP75 LED Fresnels and Equinox Tri Power Batten MKIIs.

Trinity Festival Rebooted

January 2024 also saw the latest instalment of Hull Bid’s Trinity Festival Rebooted, taking place in 12 venues across Hull city centre. We provided a range of small L-Acoustics systems across the festival, as well as a full crewing solution.
